Calum McConnell is an Assistant Commissioner working across Scottish Gaelic services at the BBC, including commissioning and executive producing content for BBC Radio nan Gàidheal and BBC ALBA. Recent commissioning credits include Dàna | Scotland’s Wild Side, SpeakGaelic, Solus | Margaret Fay Shaw of Canna and Julie Fleeting, as well as heading up BBC ALBA’s factual acquisition slate.
Originally from the Highlands of Scotland, Calum learnt to speak Gaelic whilst completing a degree in Gaelic and Media at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye. During his nine years at the BBC, he has worked across a wide range of television and radio programmes in both Gaelic and English, including the award-winning Gaelic learners’ programme Beag air Bheag and topical comedy quiz show Breaking the News on both BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Scotland.
